RuBBuR Concepts is located in Iowa City, Iowa. We sell and market simulated rubber roofing products manufactured by Hi-Tek Rubber, Inc.

Today Hi-Tek is committed to producing premium shingles made from compression molded rubber.


In the late 70’s RRE invented a formula in which polymers can be mixed with crumb rubber (shredded scrap rubber), enabling it to be remoldable. This product is labeled “Tire Cycle”.
Roofing shingles were made from Tire Cycle, then installed on a roof in 1987. When the shingles were removed a few years ago for analysis, there was NO deterioration in the structural integrity of the shingles.
Tire Cycle Shingles offer durability plus they withstood over 15 years of extreme cold in Minnesota.


Hi-Tek’s extensive market research indicated that colored shingles were required.
Further research to find a colorfast material led them to EPDM. This synthetic rubber is the best known material in the roofing industry and is often used in commercial roofing.
At first, Tire Cycle & EPDM could not be cross-linked technologically.
After 87 formula changes a “technological feat” was discovered in Hi-Tek’s process, allowing this cross-linkage to occur, giving them the ability to vulcanize a top layer of EPDM to a Tire Cycle Base Shingle.
